Are online sites rigged to favor the fish?

The answer is a most certainly – no. Programs like Poker Tracker and Holdem
Manager would very quickly expose any “tinkering with the random number
generator”, and the sites make too much money to risk cheating. Not only that,
but think of the programmers that would “know” of a site’s cheating. There
would be too many of them to keep quiet. Human nature is to blab and to
blackmail. We would (and have) find out nearly right away if there were any
cheating going on.

Do NOT participate in chat that suggests such a thing and do NOT allow these
losses to stress you out even a little bit. Why? Because it does no absolutely
no good and is a complete waste of time. These bad beats are going to come
a certain amount of the time. You already know that they will. You even know
how often they will.

“But I keep losing sets to fish who suck out to a flush or straight on the river.”

No, you lose you share – which is about 25% of them. The losses and wins just
do not come in a reasonable order. After 1000 of these showdowns, you will
lose 250 of them. The tough part is that you may have a streak where you lose
37 out of 40! Wait – you WILL have a streak where you lose 37 out of 40! You
should already realize that this bad run wait just around the corner for you.
Getting your blood rushing in anger won’t do any good or change anything.
Variance is brutal beyond comprehension. Whatever you do – DO NOT
CHANGE YOUR GAME!

Look upon the “conspiracy chatters” with sympathy – but don’t try to teach them
otherwise. Note them as inexperienced players who are likely prone to tilting
after a bad run. Wait until you have a very strong hand against them and use
their tilt to make their run even worse. Make sure you do not yourself fall victim
to this common strategy of experienced players.
